The group of Biomedical and Metabolomic Analysis of the University of Geneva is involved in the development of effective analytical methods for monitoring pharmaceuticals, drugs or metabolites in simple or complex matrices1. These activities include the implementation of various approaches for metabolomic studies. We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated and talented PostDoc to join our research team (https://epgl.unige.ch/labs/fanal/analyses-biomedicales:en).
 
Project description
A position is currently available for a research endeavor funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, in collaboration with the Swiss Centre for Applied Human Toxicology (SCAHT, http://www.scaht.org). In this context, a particular focus will be put on a subgroup of endogenous metabolites, i.e. steroid compounds and derivatives. This large scale steroid profiling will be used as a diagnostic tool for detecting metabolic alterations due to different adverse conditions, such as human pathologies or toxic exposure2. This project will combine HR-MS metabolomic-based approaches to characterize potential disruptions of steroid homeostasis in different biological matrices.
We offer an interesting multidisciplinary mission that will allow the candidate to be in contact with various aspects of toxicology research, mainly separation techniques hyphenated to MS, data analysis and bioinformatics (i.e. compound annotation using databases). He/she will become part of a large network of leading-edge researchers and professionals committed to innovation and excellence in toxicology research in Switzerland (SCAHT). As metabolomic experiments involve interdisciplinary knowledge starting from sample collection and preparation to analytical procedures, data processing and data analysis, the project is highly transversal and will take place at the interface between analytical chemistry, biology, medical sciences and bioinformatics.
 
Profile
The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, or related disciplines with a strong background in biology. Knowledge in HR-MS and/or NMR technologies, and data analysis is required. Database expertise and bioinformatic skills are highly desirable. Fluency in French and/or English is mandatory.
 
The position is funded by the SNFS for 2 years.
